Navy Paymaster Officer Charles B. Tallmadge (1792-1832). This is an old United States Army document, dated 1818/1819. The document is concerned with payment made upon discharge to a soldier 2nd Lieutenant named John A. Webb? and his black servant. It is signed by Charles B. Tallmadge, who was Paymaster of the United States Light Artillery and the 2nd Lieutenant. Charles Benjamin Tallmadge (1792-1832) was appointed an assistant district paymaster in 1814, and served as paymaster beginning in 1818. He was still in the army as of 1828, and was based in New York at that time. Tallmadge appears to have been in Hardenbergh's New York Militia at one time.
