Description:

Italo Mascitti was born on December 4, 1929 in Celano and, after a long and prestigious artistic career full of acclaim from both critics and the public, passed away on May 3, 2001. In his articulated plots original colors are mixed in a intense and mature pictorial tale. The inspiring subjects impressed with warm lyricism convert expressive and sentimental intuitions into a rhythmic vitality, which to our eyes appears harmonious and the result of sensitive perception. An animated painting in which "still lifes, landscapes, figures and other themes dear to the artist, never ensnared by an epidermal color and strengthened by a blocking of forms, become ... the pretext for the study and articulation of a discourse that is born in himself, explodes slowly on the canvas, penetrates into the formal datum, emerges from the very framework of the work, overflows into infinite and unspeakable poetic emotions and then moves to the observer without ever crystallizing in the academic void "(Italo Valente). Italo Mascitti does not want to be a painter of truth and reality. He is a messenger of suggestions from the visible. I often want to distinguish (and without voluntary dialectical forcing) between pagan painters and dream artists. In the first case we are still dealing with poets who tend, out of innate ambition, to depict truth in the most reliable way, raising beauty as an all-encompassing part of reality; in the second case, on the other hand, we are faced with artists whose aim is not to reproduce and adore (or make people adore) the "sublime", but to reproduce the mysterious continuity of their dreams.
