Description:

U.S. Government Printing Office. Illustrator, Jon Whitcomb, was born in Weatherfield, Oklahoma and raised in Manitowic, Wisconsin. He attended the Ohio Wesleyan University and Ohio State, where he painted posters for the theater department during the summer. After graduating, Whitcomb moved to New York to combine studio work with free-lance illustration. He has published illustrations in magazines such as Good Housekeeping, and Collier's. He became well known for his illustrations of "pretty girls." During World War II, Whitcomb became a Lieutenant in the Navy and had various assignments from mine sweeping duty to war artist.
