Lot 389

It is marked on the bottom. The design is attributed to KAJ FRANCK, the famous Scandinavian designer from Finland. He was born in 1911 and died in 1989. He is one of the pioneers of the mid-century design movement, and he became Head of Design Planning at Arabia in 1946. He introduced the concept of mix and match tableware. He insisted on simple, practical, and timeless form, insisting on designer anonymity. He felt the design should speak for itself. He is famous for his Kilta service, which was made at Arabia from 1953 until 1975. He won many awards for design and there have been several museum retrospectives of his work, including the Arabia Museum in Helsinki in 2003. In 1992 Design Forum Finland established a prize in his name.
