Description:

Made by artists at Acoma Pueblo (Sky City) in New Mexico. Pieces from this era often bear a simple ink stamp or handwritten inscription like "Acoma, NM" instead of an individual artist's name, as many potters at the time considered signing personal names to be boastful. Hand-coiled with thin clay walls, cream-colored slip backgrounds, and striking geometric patterns painted in black and orange or red polychrome. Features like scalloped or "piecrust" rims are also common.
