Description:

The You buy a liberty bond Lest I Perish poster was used during World War 1 to encourage the purchase of war bonds(known at the time as liberty bonds) to help fund the U.S. war effort. War bonds were sold throughout World War 1 and World War 2 in countries around the world to help governments raise funds to build armies. Posters were printed and circulated that showed the benefits of war bonds and how they helped those on the frontline. The poster was created by Ohio born C.R Macauley who later went on to win a Pulitzer prize for editorial cartooning in 1929. It depicts the statue of liberty as the protagonist calling on the people of America to buy bonds or else U.S. freedom will disappear.
