This pan is marked on the handle with the words "A. Overbach Hudson, NY Patd Nov 1864." There are only 2 others known to exist. This is a RARE cast iron egg frying pan, made by A. Overbagh of Hudson, New York. Patent is No. 44,886, granted to Addison Overbagh on November 1, 1864 -- DURING THE CIVIL WAR -- for " a cast-iron spider or frying pan, having in the bottom several shallow, cup-shaped depressions, flat on the bottom . . . in which the eggs to be fried are placed; can be used by simply placing upon top of a stove without removing stove covers. The patent description calls it an egg fryer, but certainly you could fry or bake anything that would do well in the round circles. Griswold and Wagner information books don't have anything about Overbagh. Hudson ( Columbia County ).
