As one of the most celebrated Asian-American artists of the 20th Century, Tyrus Wong (1910-2016) was a painter, animator, calligrapher, muralist, ceramicist, lithographer and kite maker, as well as a set designer and storyboard artist. He worked as a lead production illustrator for The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Entertainment, on films including Bambi (1942), Rebel Without a Cause (1955), Around the World in 80 Days (1956) and Rio Bravo (1959). After retiring in the late 1960's, Wong continued to work as an artist, kite designer and ceramicist well into his 90's. The subject of a 2015 feature length film entitled 'Tyrus', Wong passed away on the 30th December 2016, at the age of 106.
