Seth. C. Jones, Signed lower left. Seth Corbett Jones (1853 - 1929) was active/lived in New York, California. Seth Corbett Jones, was a American painter and illustrator, as well as the explorer. He was born in Rochester, New York on July 15, 1853. He was a pupil of Thomas Moran and William Henry Holmes. He was a member of the U.S. Geological and Topographical Expedition that laid out Yellowstone National Park. Constantly traveling the West, his sketches of California missions, dated 1889, are in the Bancroft Library at University of California at Berkeley. He was also the member of the Hayden Expedition of the American South West which became part of the National Parks Systems. Thomas Moran was the artist at the member of Hayden Expedition accompanied as artist. Seth C. Jones was a well known artist in Rochester and Secretary of the Municipal Art Commission. He died in Rochester on August 1, 1929. His works are rare. His works are sold at many auction houses. His works can be seen at the museum such a as Memorial Art Gallery of University of Rochester. Also at American Art Gallery on internet site. He painted various subjects but he was famous by bucolic landscapes with sheep. Seth Corbett Jones was not merely a painter; he was a true American adventurer who lived a life of extraordinary breadth and purpose. His story is woven into the very fabric of American history. Hayden. He was among the first to explore and document the areas that would become our National Parks, including Yellowstone. PIONEER OF PHOTOGRAPHY: In the 1880s, Jones was a pioneering salesman and demonstrator for the Eastman Kodak Company, traveling the country to showcase the revolutionary new Kodak No. 1 camera and roll film.
