Lot 106

The game was played at University Park, PA Rec Hall on January 20, 1931. Syracuse won 50-33. The ball has the game info on the ball including the Syracuse players names (Lou "Tuppy" Hayman, Dan Fogarty, Slim Elliot, Etc.). One of the greatest players for Syracuse in the first half of the century, Lou Hayman was a three year starter, and an All-American his senior year (1931). Known as an excellent defender, Hayman also demonstrated scoring prowess with an excellent perimeter shot. In a game against Cornell in March 1930, Hayman scored 22 points, nearly outscoring the entire opposition in a game SU won 58-24. He was part of the Syracuse famed 'Reindeer Five'. Ev Katz was part of the famed 'Reindeer Five' at Syracuse, a speedy fivesome that went 34-6 over two years. Katz played guard and developed a one handed set shot (several years ahead of Stanford's Hank Luisetti, who is generally regarded as inventing the shot). lim Elliott was the center of the famed 'Reindeer Five' at Syracuse. Elliott was a considered a tall center in his era at 6'4", and did most of the jump balls for the team. He was a fine all around athlete playing baseball (he was a pitcher) along with basketball. Elliott would join the speedy foursome of Ev Katz, Dan Fogarty, Tuppy Hayman and Ken Beagle his sophomore year, to form the Reindeer Five. The four upperclassmen were fleet footed, and Elliott was the big man in the middle.
