P.O.N stands for Pride of Newark, which was created and trademarked by Fiegenspan Brewing Company, based in Newark. During the mid 20th century, the Dobler Brewing Company acquired the rights to brew and distribute the popular line of P.O.N. line of beers and ales. The letters stand for "Pride of Newark," a trademark originally owned by the massive Christian Feigenspan Brewing Co. of Newark, New Jersey. After the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the Dobler Brewing Company of Albany, New York, operated as a closely aligned affiliate/subsidiary of Feigenspan, sharing the "P.O.N." branding on their local New York distribution of ales and "Quality Brews". These elegant, scalloped or straight-edged counter displays were produced primarily between 1934 and 1939. They were designed to sit directly on the back bars or cash registers of taverns to catch the light.
