This is Joseph J. Brickler's sketchbook when he was a student of Reginald Marsh. The first pages has Marsh - A.M. in the bottom left corner and dated June 24, 1949. It has hundreds of sketches from the class on different days including how long certain pages took to complete. Lots of female and male figures. Coney Island, Empire State Building, Etc.. He was a student of Reginald Marsh at The Art Students League in New York City. He was a very talented artist and you can see Reginald Marsh's influence. Joseph J Brickler was born around 1914. We know that Joseph J Brickler had been residing in Monroe County, New York United States. He continued to do his pen and ink drawings as a corporal and then Sergeant in the US Military. He Enlisted: May 1, 1942 in Rochester New York. Reginald Marsh (March 14, 1898 - July 3, 1954) was an American painter, born in Paris, most notable for his depictions of life in New York City in the 1920s and 1930s. Crowded Coney Island beach scenes, popular entertainments such as vaudeville and burlesque, women, and jobless men on the Bowery are subjects that reappear throughout his work. He painted in egg tempera and in oils, and produced many watercolors, ink and ink wash drawings, and prints.
