Serving Tray for Geneva Home Brew from The Geneva Brewing Company out of Geneva, New York. Text under the name states Bottled Only At The Brewery. Hops are also shown behind the companys initials. Geneva Brewing Company was a large business owned by stock holders from outside Geneva and managed by men from Buffalo. The company expanded to include an ice business in 1909. Most of the business was destroyed by a fire in 1914, and one of the managers was charged with arson. The jury acquitted the man, but insurance company denied the owners claim, and the business went bankrupt. The remaining equipment was disbursed at auction. That was the ignoble end of brewing businesses in Geneva before prohibition outlawed beer in 1920. Kaufmann & Strauss sign company was established in 1890 located in New York, NY. They made a name for themselves for the production of detailed lithograph paper signs, tin signs, factory scenes, plates, and serving trays for various industries and companies from across the country. Among the most prominent industries in the Kaufmann Strauss portfolio of work was breweries. They made a variety of produces like corner signs, shield signs, factory scenes, charger signs, die-cut signs, tip trays, and serving trays. Many of the signs and trays used stock graphics of Victorian scenes as well as custom images of breweries, products, and logos. Kaufmann & Strauss was contracted to produce advertising signs and trays for breweries like Reading Brewing Company, Lauer Brewery, Deppen Brewery, South Bethlehem Supreme Brewery, Bartels Brewery, Erie Brewery, Deppen Brewing Company, ABC Brewing Company, National Brewing Company, Jos. Doelgers Sons, Maiers Brewery, A. Fisher Brewing Company, Anheuser-Busch Budweiser, Fehrs Brewing Company, and Wielands Brewery as well as many more. Kaufmann and Strauss eventually shutdown operations and closed in 1930. Their closure was partially due to the lack of business attributed from the national prohibition that shut down breweries across the county.
