Description:

Hand-colored etching on a translucent resin plate neatly mounted in a period wood frame. The image is of a wood engraving by W.P. Snyder first published in Harper's Weekly in the August 31, 1889 issue under the title: "A Collegiate Game of Baseball". Snyder's drawing is notable for its depiction of mostly women sitting in the stands from behind home plate, with a baseball game in progress under a twilight sky. The seven or eight women depicted prominently in the foreground are shown sitting alone, with their attention not directed at the game on the field, but elsewhere. A remarkable engraving transformed by the resin plate into a more mysterious, three-dimensional like image.
