Morton, A. C., engineer, A. C. Mortone., Bowen & Co. Original map of the European and North American Railway, showing its connection with the railways of the United States & Canada; made by direction of His Excellency John Hubbard, Governor of Maine under the resolve of Aug. 20th 1850. It was created in 1850. Shows railroads completed and under consideration in the New England area. The idea of the European and North American Railway was conceived in 1850, with the specific purpose of linking Portland, Maine, with Halifax, Nova Scotia, to connect with incoming European ships. Shows New England, eastern New York, and the Maritime Provinces. Gives completed, in progress, and proposed railroads. Indicates drainage, state boundaries, and larger cities.
