A Universal Atlas comprising of all the principle Empires, Kingdoms and States throughout the World and forming a distinct atlas of the United States compiled by David H. Burr. Published by D. S. Stone. Map of the Territory of Florida (Published by Illman & Pilbrow, New York / A nice example of a scarce pre-statehood Florida map in the vibrant original hand-color with none of the southern counties yet formed. Florida wouldn't become the twenty-seventh state until March 3, 1845 (just before Texas' entry in December). According to Ristow, although Burr is credited on the title page, he left this atlas incomplete. He was appointed as topographer to the U.S. Post Office, and of the sixty-three maps finally included in this atlas, only completed eight. The rest of the maps were then completed by Illman and Pilbrow in Burr's style. THERE ARE 4 MAPS MISSING: #9 FRANCE / #48 OREGON TERRITORY / #57 MEXICO AND GUATIMALA / #63 UNITED PROVINCES CHILE AND PATAGONIA. - Condition: Good - Very Good Condition with the front cover almost detached and the title pages torn. The maps are in Very Good - Excellent Condition for their age.
