Description:

Paolo Stirrat was a Sardinian artist who was active from the 1930s’ to 1970’s. This large original oil painting depicts a Mediterranean harbor, with a house and several boats anchored at the shore. It is done in beautiful colors of rusts and light blues. This artist has a strong and growing base of followers, including a Facebook page created by fans of his work. His technique is described as medium to light impasto, and he often used a pallet knife in place of a brush. Stirrat often used Anco Bilt stretcher frames (available from 1940s to 1970s) and multi-layered frames consisting of ivory canvas glued to pine wood, surrounded by an outer frame of pine wood. These outer frames were often hand carved. Artist/Info: Born in Cagliari, Island of Sardinia, the son of a farmer who grew lemons and oranges. Always fascinated by the shores of the Mediterranean where he could watch the boats and be a part of the sea. He took up art and began selling his drawings to the tourists. He traveled in the 1940's, and has been confirmed to have been in New Zealand in 1941. We describe all items to the best of our ability as we are not experts on everything.
