Description:

Signed in pencil on the lower right by the artist. Gold leaf framed with linen outer mat w/ gold fillet and behind plexiglass. Artist John Baughman was born in Michigan in 1947. As he grew, he immersed himself in the rich traditions of the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were passions and he spent much of his free time camped on the banks of Michigan’s great trout streams. A meandering path brought John to his career as an artist. Military service in the late 60’s and studies in several universities left him with lots of ideas and a sincere desire to express them. He began his art career by forming a consulting business, representing artist’s work to private and corporate clients. Meeting, falling in love and working alongside his wife, Janet provided him with a platform to make a change and become a full time studio artist. John and Janet formed Marshwood Studios in 1984, and began building relationships with leading publishers and distributor’s in the fine art field. John’s work is a reflection of nature. Landscape imagery combined with abstractions of natural forms define his paintings. Veils of color reminiscent of flowing water compose the complex layers of his work. Baughman has explored lithography, silk screen printing, etching and handmade paper but has worked exclusively in mixed media oil and encaustic on canvas and paper since the late 1980’s. John’s work is elegant and strong and has been widely exhibited and included in many private and corporate collections worldwide. Because John and Janet’s artwork works so well together, many times it is used in proximity within corporate and private installations. Their art has also found its place in popular culture, being used on the sets of many of today’s popular television shows, commercials and movies.
