Lot 140

Introduced in 1936, the new pattern of SS dagger supplemented the original 1933 dagger with the caveat that the '36 pattern was intended specifically for those considered to be an "SS Man", an officer or a minimum 3-year enlisted veteran. Measuring 13.75 inches overall with the 8.75 inch double edged spear point blade showing the acid etched "Meine Ehre heisst Treue" (My Honor is Loyalty) motto on the obverse and no visible makers marks on the back; while not documented, unmarked SS paraphernalia is sometimes noted as being made "in-house" by SS-controlled companies and facilities, such as the "Reichs Training Smithy" run out of the Dachau concentration camp. Nickel-finished alloy cross guard and hilt, with the SS rune medallion and national eagle The sheath is black enamel finished with nickel fittings showcasing the distinctive swastika patterned middle band and chain hanger (two links front, four links back) with recurring "SS" and "totenkopf" motifs on the front and the "intertwined rune" acceptance mark on the back of one of the links.
