Lot 107
Antique Wedgwood Trentham Red pattern covered vegetable dish. This elegant lidded vegetable bowl was made by well known English china manufacturer, Wedgwood. Wedgwood was founded in 1759 by Josiah Wedgwood and this particular pattern, Edme, is one of the company's most enduring patterns. Edme was commissioned in 1906 by French architectural firm Dannier Frères and was designed by Wedgwood art director, John Goodwin. The classic pattern has architectural overtones with Georgian lines. The vegetable dish is decorated in Wedgwood's "Trentham Red" pattern which features a transferware band of red and navy checkered blocks running just below the mouth of the bowl and along the edge of the lid. The bowl also has large ram's head handles located at opposite ends which are decorated with hand painted blue accents on the animal's horns. The ribbed lid has multicolored floral accents emanating from urns and is topped by a finial with hand painted crisscrossing blue lines. It should also be noted that the lid has a small hole in the top enabling steam to escape, preventing vegetables or other hot foods from getting soggy.
