Lot 275
If you can't go across with a gun, come across with your part of the Red Cross war fund. Poster showing a wounded man gesturing toward a Red Cross. Date Created/Published: 1917. A wounded soldier with a bandaged arm stands atop a silhouetted battlefield, gesturing back toward a mother and child. Painted by Charles Waldo Love (18811967), an American illustrator known for his historical paintings and wartime contributions. Commissioned by the American Red Cross to drive their national fundraising campaigns. The funds directly supported medical aid, field hospitals, and relief efforts for soldiers overseas. The slogan relies heavily on home-front guilt and patriotism. It explicitly positions financial donations as an equivalent duty to military enlistment for those who cannot physically fight.
