American cast iron toy by Kenton Hardware Manufacturing Company, known as a "Cabriolet" or Hansom Cab, was the modus operandi of travel, ubiquitous in the late 1800s, as shown by this horse drawn vehicle, depicting a driver perched on his seat, and a female passenger in the protective covering to the rear, circa 1890s. The Kenton Toy Company started business in 1890, founded by F.M. Perkins in Kenton, Ohio. They started their prolific toy line in 1894 and continued until 1952.
