Description:

Originally made for Summerly's Art Manufactures, it was designed as the companion figure to Dorothea and exhibited by Minton at the Great Exhibition 1851. Clorinda who was the beautiful pagan warrior featured in Tassos Gerusalemme Liberata (1580). The original marble sculpture By John Bell was commissioned by Lord Lansdowne and was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1848. During the battle between pagan & Christian armies Clorinda was wounded by her lover Tancred, a Christian nobleman, who failed to recognize her in her armour.
