Lot 59
Design produced by Kronheimer & Oldenbusch (commonly abbreviated as K&O or the Kronheim & Oldenbusch Metal Novelties Company). Made of cast metal (often white metal or spelter) and finished with either a bronze plating or detailed polychrome enamel paint. You will frequently see them featuring a librarian in dark attire with bright red-topped books. Based out of Brooklyn, New York, the Kronheimer & Oldenbusch Co. was a premier manufacturer of metal novelties, ash trays, lamps, and decorative bookends during the early-to-mid 20th century. Alongside "The Struggling Librarian," they are well-known for other scholarly and literary motifs, such as the "Sleeping Scholar" and the "Roman Scribe".
