Lot 314
Peters and Reed Landsun is a highly collectible line of American art pottery introduced in 1918 in Zanesville, Ohio. It is widely celebrated for its distinctive, hand-blended matte glazes that mimic natural landscapes, swirling sky blues, mossy greens, sunsets, and earthy tans. Because each piece was hand-painted with metallic oxides before firing, no two Landsun items look exactly alike. Like most Peters and Reed lines, it is crafted from local Ohio red terracotta clay. It features a soft, smooth, non-glossy finish that creates an impressionistic, scenic effect. These pieces almost never have a stamped or incised factory mark. They originally bore paper labels that washed away. Check the bottom for an unglazed red-brown foot ring and three triangular stilt marks left over from the kiln firing. The company rebranded as Zane Pottery in 1921. Zane continued the Landsun line, so you will often see pieces cataloged under both company names.
