Lot 238
The Peters and Reed Art Pottery Chromal line is a highly collectible series of early 20th-century American art pottery known for its stylized, hand-painted scenic landscapes. Produced in South Zanesville, Ohio, during the Arts & Crafts era, these pieces are famous for their impressionistic depictions of rolling hills, meadows, and trees rendered in rich, organic glaze layers. Chromal ware features layered, blended, and mottled matte glazes. The palette typically uses organic hues such as rich shaded blues, earthy browns, mocha, and soft greens. Like most early Peters and Reed pottery made between 1912 and 1920, Chromal vases were crafted using a local Ohio red clay. True to the manufacturer's typical practice, Chromal vases are essentially unmarked. Identification relies strictly on glaze style, the characteristic red clay base, and known mold shapes.
