Lot 177
The Wm. H. Horstmann Company of Philadelphia was one of the premier 19th- and early 20th-century manufacturers of military, theatrical, and fraternal regalia in the United States. The Masonic Knights Templar Dress Ostrich Chapeau Bicorne Hat is a distinct historical artifact worn as part of the formal full-dress uniform by Sir Knights during commandery conclaves, public parades, and processions rather than private lodge rituals. Items explicitly stamped with "Wm. H. Horstmann Company" generally date from 1893 onward (succeeding the earlier "William H. Horstmann & Sons" era). Antique and vintage fraternal chapeaux in today's secondary market generally command between $130 and $300+.
