Description:

Produced in South Zanesville, Ohio, these distinctive vessels are highly prized by collectors for their unique, swirling, multi-colored glazes and local red clay construction. The marbleized look was often achieved as an "end of day" practice. Potters mixed remaining glaze slips to create dramatic, flowing, multi-colored swirled patterns. Common color combinations include rich earth tones or striking blends of blues, greens, yellows, and blacks. Authentic early pieces from this era were hand-thrown or molded using the Zanesville area's native red clay. The company transitioned to white clay later in the 1920s. these vases are almost always unmarked and unsigned.
