The 1st Regiment, Alabama Reserves (also known as the 62nd Regiment) was a Confederate infantry regiment during the American Civil War. The regiment was formed in Mobile, Alabama in the summer of 1864 by adding two companies to Lockhart's Alabama Battalion . Many of the men in Company C came from Morgan and Tallapoosa counties. Maj. John Wesley Pitts, 62nd Alabama Infantry. He originally served as a Captain in Company C and Company K, 31st Alabama Infantry. He then served as Captain of Company C in the 62nd before being promoted to Major. Company C of the 62nd Alabama Infantry was sworn into service at Wilsonville, Shelby County, Alabama in November 1863. Most of the soldiers in the 62nd were 16 to 18 years old and they were initially issued Mississippi rifles but later they received Enfield rifles. The 62nd fought at Spanish Fort and Fort Blakeley at the end of the war in April 1865.
