Description:

This print done from an original painting by J. L. G. Ferris features President Abraham Lincoln speaking with a small group of African-Americans who have traveled to Washington, D. C., from somewhere in the south during the Civil War. They are depicted in front of the White House and the African-Americans seem to be distressed. A soldier is keeping a small group of five behind him who are probably waiting to speak with the president. A carpetbag with a cane atop is on the ground beside the young boy holding on to his mother's apron. Two Caucasian women stand behind President Lincoln.
