During this era, anti-alcohol sentiment was gaining rapid momentum. In response, Anheuser-Busch and its president, Adolphus Busch, formulated a pre-Prohibition strategy framing beer not as an intoxicant, but as a wholesome, healthy beverage that supported "True Temperance". The brewery ran national campaigns and distributed promotional items declaring that "Budweiser Spells Temperance". They argued that mild, pure beer was a natural alternative to hard liquor and patent medicines. This specific advertising card combined that strategic messaging with their incredibly popular "Budweiser Girl" imagerythe wholesome, beautifully illustrated female models used to give the brand an attractive, trusted face.
