(1 Bid)This historic engraving displays the Wyoming Massacre, a raid by Iroquois warriors allied with the British on American settlers during the Revolutionary War in Northern Pennsylvania. We can see the Indian warriors busting into a settler dwelling with tomahawks and being confronted by settlers defending the home with an axe and a long rifle. The settler has knocked down the first raider with this axe and a fellow settler aims a musket at a Mohawk wearing Iroquois hopping through the window. The Battle of Wyoming was a setback for Patriot forces, where they were outmaneuvered by British forces, and the Indian war parties allied with the redcoats inflicted terror on the settlers who had been pushing further and further into the Wyoming Valley. This chilling scene shows a bloody chapter of the Revolutionary War in the frontier in grim detail.
