Description:

The map was created by Elijah H. Burritt and published by F.J. Huntington. Elijah H. Burritt’s "A Plan of the Solar System Exhibiting its Relative Magnitudes and Distances" (1835) is a renowned 19th-century celestial chart from his Atlas, Designed to Illustrate The Geography of the Heavens. Published in Hartford, CT, it features the Sun, planet orbits, and relative sizes—notably calling Uranus "Herschel". The 1835 map (Plate I) displays the relative diameters, distances, and orbital inclinations of planets, including a visual representation of phases of the moon.
