Buckley as "Additional Paymaster of Volunteers in the service of the United States." Signed at the conclusion in ink by President Abraham Lincoln, and countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. The blue War Department seal affixed at the upper left remains intact. Abraham Lincoln signed numerous documents appointing "Additional Paymasters" during the Civil War. These appointments, typically countersigned by the Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, authorized individuals to handle the financial disbursements for Union volunteers. These documents are often highly sought-after historical artifacts, reflecting Lincoln's critical role in managing the Union Army's finances. The role of an Additional Paymaster was to ensure that Union soldiers received their pay, a vital aspect of maintaining morale and military effectiveness during the Civil War. They frequently featured patriotic vignettes, such as eagles and military symbols, and were often adorned with the blue paper seal of the War Department. She died on 26 June 1864, in Delhi, Delaware, New York, United States, at the age of 40.
