Frontispiece and 12 black and white full-page plates by Dali. publisher's blue-grey cloth, stylized maze design in blind, centre square in red with gilt lettering, gilt titles to spine on red ground. It contains 110 pages. A macabre tale by the pioneering Swiss fantasy author Maurice Sandoz, and later the basis for a 1953 horror film of the same name. Its surrealist overtones are perfectly matched by the illustrations by Dali, whom the author had met in Rome in the late 1930's.
