Lot 225

This is a colorful, 1918 lithographic World War I patriotic poster that depicts an American eagle and numerous bi-planes. This is a very desirable poster with vibrant colors. The piece was illustrated by Charles Livingston Bull and was issued by the United States Treasury Department. US WWI Lithographs were used during 1917 and 1918 to encourage citizens to buy Liberty Bonds, special charitable appeals, conserve food and goods and enforce patriotism. Since the federal government had banned commercial radio, the posters were needed to spread these messages. Many of the works were commissioned by well-known artists of the day.
