Published by W. S. Scull, 1909. Theodore Roosevelt's African Trip: The Story of His Life, the Voyage from New York to Mombasa, and the Route Through the Heart of Africa Including the big Game and Other Ferocious Animals, Strange Peoples and Countries Found in the Course of his Travels. Roosevelt's African Trip or more properly The Smithsonian-Roosevelt African Expedition of 1909 was an expedition to Africa led by Theodore Roosevelt and outfitted by the Smithsonian Institution. Its purpose was to collect specimens for the Smithsonian's new Natural History Museum. The expedition collected around 11,400 animal specimens which took Smithsonian naturalists eight years to catalog. It also spawned several popular books like this one (one of the first.) 1910 saw Roosevelt's own African Game Trails as well as an early documentary film, Roosevelt in Africa, by Englishman Cherry Kearton, one of the world's earliest wildlife photographers.
