Published by Peter Fenelon Collier, 1898. Peter Fenelon Collier (1849 ? 1909) was an Irish publisher, the founder of the publishing company P.F. Collier & Son, and in 1888 founded Collier's Weekly. "Nations of the World" was sold by subscription throughout the country. This series of classic historical 19th century studies, tracks the emergence of the modern nation state. In the period before and after WWII, the interdisciplinary study of national character, encompassing psychology, history, politics and anthropology became a key input into governmental policies and understandings of the relation between nations. Classics in the series are often sold separately, from Gibbons "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire", to Julian Hawthorne's "United States from the landing of Columbus to the Signing of the Peace Protocol with Spain".
