Featured Locales: The travelers explore several iconic American cities and landmarks, including Niagara Falls, the Great Lakes, Chicago, the Grand Canyon, the Colorado Rockies, Boston, and Mount Washington. The narrative is heavily interspersed with historical facts, local lore, and moral lessons about the "conduct of life". It is famously profusely illustrated with black-and-white engravings, which helped bring the vast landscapes to life for children who had never left their hometowns.
