Author was a civil engineer who lived in Philadelphia for several years. Sherman Day was grandson of Roger Sherman, the signer of the Declaration of Independence, and the son of Jeremiah Day, president of Yale University from 1817-1846. This volume is one of the earliest books to include a county history of every county in Pennsylvania.
