With fine engravings. Complete with all plates Good condition with an elegant 18th century bookplate. This celebrated collection of early and mid-eighteenth century verse was compiled by Robert Dodsley (1704-64). Born in Mansfield he began his career as an aspiring young poet and soon made the acquaintance of Alexander Pope. In 1735 he established his Tully's Head bookshop in Pall Mall and became one of the most famous literary publishers of the age, issuing the works of Pope, Thomas Gray and Samuel Johnson, all of whom are represented in this collection, along with many lesser known poets and anonymous contributions.
